United College of Hong Kong was founded in 1956 with the amalgamation of five colleges: Canton Overseas, Kwand Hsia, Wah Kiu, Wen Hua and Ping Jing.

Dr Thomas H C Cheung stepped down from Chairman of the UC Alumni Association. To show the College's heartfelt appreciation for Dr Cheung's sterling contribution to the alumni affairs of the College over the past 44 years, Mr Shum Choi-sang, former Chairman of the College Board of Trustees, hosted a dinner at Shanghai Fraternity Association.
To extend a warm welcome and to pay tribute to Professor Charles K Kao, the 2009 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics, the College hosted a dinner banquet in his honour at the College Staff Common Room.

The CUHK 50th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony, Walkathon and Carnival was held. The UC Walkathon Team raised the largest amount of fund among the other colleges and won the “Best Fundraiser Award – College”.

Twelve College students visited Lashio of Myanmar under the GOAL Programme - Pass the Toys to Northern Myanmar Service Programme. The team assisted a local orphanage to set up a toy library by using the toys which collected on campus before the trip.
